I am not about doing blogs for sales purposes or to receive free product from the company.  This is something I sell and use at the spa because I believe in it.  I’ve never had that moment where I actually saw a difference over night, until this!!!!

The Corpa Flora Collection including the 21 Discovery Kit to try out the products before you purchase the full sizes

I have been using non toxic body care since I learned about toxins about 2 years ago.  There are great lines available in Canada, I think the best actually and I have probably tried them all.  I sample so many because I own a non toxic spa, I’m always on the lookout for great skin care lines. A great friend kept mentioning Corpa Flora (water free so not diluted!) to me and in all honesty, I trust her, she is a blogger that I totally admire since the majority of her blogs are on all natural products http://ecochicbeautydiva.blogspot.ca/.  I hesitated to try this and here’s why……….I have way too many products.  AND……..my skin was doing pretty good, for someone who had wicked acne, I had to be careful.  Oil was not something that I wanted to put on this face. Way too reactive and I was pretty happy using what I had. The body lotion called Corpa Nutritive I did want to try though.  There is nothing that moisturizes better.  The best part is the smell and the non greasiness of this product.  It absorbs so well.  I’m sure this is all attributed to the founder of the company Celine who;s background is science.  She’s mastered it along with including Omega Fatty Acids which we are always being preached to about including in the diet but what about the skin? It needs feeding too, it is of course the largest organ. Finally, I broke down and contacted Celine from Corpa Flora in Montreal, Canada.  I asked her to send me a sample.  She sent me the 21 day Discovery Set.  I loved the tin, what a great way to take all your products with you for travel.  I’m sure when I write this many skin care companies will say “hmmmmm, we should do that!”. The best part? It’s what I call the non-commitment kit to try it for $51 and if you hate it, you haven’t invested in the full size bottles.  There is even a Shoo Foo bamboo cloth which is a huge hit, everyone wants more.  I never even used a cloth until Corpa Flora……The best part about Corpa (I call it Corpa) is that I do this in bed at night because I have LAS (lazy a$$ syndrome) when it comes to washing at night. I take my damp cloth to bed, have my set sitting on my bedside table.  I apply the cleanser, squeeze a few drops of water from my cloth and apply to emulsify and wipe clean storing my cloth on my water cup so as not to damage my wood bedside table.  All you need is a couple pumps of Eclat Citrouille and some Frownies and you’re set!

Image

Shoo Foo Bamboo cloths that started me using cloths in the first place. One comes in the Discovery Set or you can buy 3 for $14

I call this the 2 step line.  Reason being, you only need to cleanse and moisturize using either the day or the night moisturizer.  So the first step is to apply Beaute Divine on dry skin.  Why? It will cleanse much better on dry skin without diluting with water.  The trick is to add a few drops of water after it is applied.  It emulsifies and turns creamy for easy removal. THE BEST PART? You don’t need a separate eye makeup remover. I wear lots of eye makeup, this is the best I’ve found!

Beaute Divine Oil Cleanser

Once a week and only once a week, you use Rock ‘n Rose to exfoliate the dead skin cells. Our skin cell turnover rate is every 21 days (hence the name of the Discovery Kit). As we age, by our 40’s the turnover rate has slowed to every 40 days.  So at age 43, I need a little bit of help.  This is crushed adzuki beans and oatmeal.  Not too gritty, just gritty enough.  You don’t want to over exfoliate or you will upset the acid mantle there to protect your skin. Many come to me with rosacea (redness and sensitivity) which is very easy to remedy with the right regimen and product.

Image

Beaute Divine Cleanser with a pea size application of Rock ‘n Rose once a week to exfoliate.

You can see how easily it mixes with the cleanser and a few drops of water.

Image

Apply a few drops of water, the Rock ‘n Rose blends in quite well.

This is Eclat Citrouille which is also translated as Pumpkin Glow.  As you can see on the left of my hand, this is nice and rich, not too heavy so clogging occurs.  This is applied on damp skin. I use 100% Pure Organic Rose Water because I like the moisturizing qualities along with the oil as a base.  You can also just use water, it should be damp from the facecloth removing your cleanser anyways.

Image

Eclat Citrouille for night time moisture

This is Grenadine day oil.  What I love is that it absorbs quickly within 5 minutes so I can apply my DeVita Spf along with my Sappho concealer and foundation.  Again, needs to be applied on a damp face (I always use my spray toner from 100% Pure),  I am not the least bit dewy or oily from this and it keeps my face moisturized all day. Applying this on damp skin only helps it to drive in deeper and allows  the need for less product . THE BEST PART? You don’t need a separate eye cream. With Corpa, it’s not formulated with wax, it’s not too rich that you can’t use this for the eyes.  The skin is very thin under the eye, with traditional moisturizers unless they are formulated specifically for eyes, you will get those tiny white bumps called milia that need to be extracted.

Image

There is also the newest addition Caviar Rouge: is a blend of powerful polyphenols (antioxidants) from red grape skin powder from Okanagan Valley (B.C), Canadian cranberry and blueberry fruit powders, fruit acids (AHA), pineapple enzymes, niacinamide or vitamin B3( shown to increase ceramides and free fatty acids levels in the skin and prevent hyperpigmentation), magnesium ascorbyl phosphate ( a stable and non-acidic form of vitamin C ) and xylitol ( an humectant and powerful anti-bacterial agent) which are working synergically together to remove dead skin cells, improve skin tone and counteract skin-aging.

The cleanser and night and day oil retail for $37, Rock ‘n Rose retail for $23. The body oil retails for $39 and I can tell you that these products have not only changed my life but my clients lives as well.  There’s almost a cult following!   I have it and can ship or here is the Corpa Flora site:http://www.corpaflora.com/la-boutique/?lang=en
Here is a testimonial from a couple of clients:

The Corpa flora products are AMAZING. I have sensitive skin and at 43 moisturizing is necessary, but with toxic store brand lotions I was breaking out. This facial botanical cocktail oil feels so light and the scent is fresh and relaxing. It is my favourite Lisa!

And another: Lisa I want to thank you for introducing me to Corpa Flora. It has changed my life. I know that sounds corny, but this product truly has. I had basically lost all my self-confidence. My face was so bad with what I called volcanos all over, and cracks so damaging they would bleed. It was so embarrassing; I didn’t know when one of these volcanos would explode that I wouldn’t go out, not even to the grocery store. I couldn’t look at anyone and lost my confidence to even do my job properly.
Now in my forties, I have tried everything on my face, spent thousands upon thousands of dollars, attended numerous doctor’s appointments and nothing changed. Until the night I met you, you gave me the faith to try Corpa Flora. So, I purchased the trial kit….within two days I could feel and see the difference. I couldn’t believe how easy Corpa Flora was to use. A week later, I could smile…yes I smiled. I couldn’t do that before because it literally hurt my face too much and made the cracks bleed. Two weeks after using Corpa Flora, a colleague of mine stated how happy I looked. After that, I received numerous compliments. Now, I have been using Corpa Flora for 6 months and I can’t stop smiling. My face is so soft and smooth I can’t stop touching it, which is something I couldn’t say before. I have had no volcanos or cracks since using Corpa Flora. I smile all the time now and I can look people in the face with confidence.
Thank you Lisa for helping me get me back!

Thank you.

Toxic Hair products, Why You Should Switch

Please make sure to sign up on the about page so you don’t miss my blogs.  Update: The webstore can now be found at http://www.glamgoesgreen.com if you are looking for totally non-toxic products that won’t break the bank.  Glam Goes Green is the green product portion of Serenity On The Humber.  Don’t forget to leave me your questions or comments, would love to help if I can.

I have to tell you a story about my headache the other day and why I realized that I tossed (not used up) my toxic body care products.  I usually tell people to use their stuff up, don’t toss it, then buy the natural products as you use yours up.  I thought I would do that as well.

I had to take my Mom for her follow up doctor’s appt. for surgery that she had back in July.  Washed my hair with Aubrey Naturals and 100% Pure (love mixing).   As I was fixing myself up and trust me, that’s a chore, I took a peek at a shelf that I have containing hair products that I have ignored for ions.  As I was sitting in my chair at my vanity I started to get a wicked headache.  Full on, not gradual.  I thought “what the heck did I eat today?  It’s only 10 a.m. I haven’t eaten so it can’t be food causing it.”

Ran down to the kitchen, popped my 2 Advil Cold and Sinus.  Picked up Mom, drove on to the hospital, sat and waited for what seemed like forever.  As I was sitting in the waiting room I kept thinking “what the heck is that god awful perfume smell?” I hate when my Mom puts that stuff on, the stuff that she’s been wearing since I was a kid.  And I lecture every time she gets in the car with it on because I die. The kids start in on her, she gets mad and then we move on haha!  But it wasn’t her, it was me.  And I still had the headache, couldn’t figure out why the advil hadn’t knocked it out and had to take a tylenol.  Still there.

I realized that the stank was my hair!  It was the damn mousse that I decided to ‘use up.’  Just more proof that I am not a neurotic as my Mom would have me think.  I am now that person that everyone hates that complains about scent.  I remember when they started to make the kids schools ‘scent free.’  I thought ‘give me a break!’.  Yup I’m one of those now, except I don’t just not like it, I get a wicked headache.  And there’s a reason for it, it’s downright poison.  I’m also the person who has switched over to using only products with essential oils.  No parfum, no fragrance.

There are two products that I am loving.  Lavanilla which is sold at Sephora and honestly the only product that I know of that is actually non-toxic and smells amazing! The second I came across when I was at the Environmental Defense Eco Beauty Market this past weekend.  It’s from Sigrid Naturals.  I was so impressed!  It was called L’Amour des Flowers ,

INGREDIENTS

Grape seed oil, jasmine, magnolia, chamomile and rose geranium essential oils.

it retails for $34 and is handcrafted with herbs from her own garden.  It smelled amazing and lasted for longer that what they usually last.  Natural perfumes don’t last, only synthetics have the capability to do that.  The one downfall to non toxic but you just have to reapply, no biggie.  Here’s the link for Sigrid Naturals.  http://www.sigridnaturals.com/skin-care/perfumes/lamour-de-fleurs

I love Lavanila scents, they smell amazing, last a long time and are priced really well.  Pacifica is another that I really am enjoying and have started to sell in the spa with great results.

This is just a lesson to those who continue to use these products from the typical drug store brands.  Here is an article that may sway you if you are still stuck there. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/samuel-s-epstein/toxic-chemicals_b_625648.html

For those who want to switch I am here, ask me questions.  And yes, I did throw those other products out 🙂

Arbonne – Is It Toxic? Is It Safe?

Please make sure to sign up on the about page so you don’t miss my blogs.  Update: The webstore can now be found at http://www.glamgoesgreen.com if you are looking for totally non-toxic products that won’t break the bank.  Glam Goes Green is the green product portion of Serenity On The Humber.  Don’t forget to leave me your questions or comments, would love to help if I can.

These are questions I hear honestly daily. I think the reason is very simple.  Everyone knows someone who is selling it and everyone wants to believe that this product is natural.  How easy is that?  Just order online, have it shipped.  They smell great, feel great, what’s not to love?  It’s supposed to be more natural right?

I remember a friend who told me about Arbonne, she was so excited, just starting to sell it.  Oh, make that 3 friends actually. One thought it would be perfect for me to sell (under her) because I was about natural, and well I could make lots of money selling this to my clients.

I looked at the prices, whew, that’s not cheap!  Then I looked at the ingredients………..All I can tell you is that they are not natural, nor do they claim to be.  The state on their website and I quote ” Arbonne’s skin care products, based on botanical principles.”  Now botanical is wonderful!  But problem: Who is monitoring the pesticides being used on these botanicals.  I was told by 2 out of the 3 that this an all natural line.  So I questioned a woman who was one of the leaders in our area at a craft show who had a booth there.  She told me that the reps should not have told me that and that they are not being trained properly.  She gave me her card and asked that they call her.  That stuck in my head and still does.  I’ve met many more people and reps who tell me that this line is totally natural.  I shake my head and say nothing.  It is not my intent to bash and in all fairness, these people are not being trained properly.  I believe that they believe that they are all natural. This is what they are being told when they sign up and hope to make their riches.

The issue that I have is that these people are being trusted to choose products for your skin type.  Have they had training in skin?  It is after all the largest organ right?  The answer is no, it’s up to them to train themselves.  Do they know about rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, acne?  Maybe?  That’s not good enough for me.  When people come to me at the spa, I have them on the facial bed under a magnifying glass and well yes it’s not always pretty, I would hate if someone was looking at all of my issues.  BUT this is how I can assess, this is how I can treat and suggest products for your skin type and concerns.

So my final thought is that while this product may have great intent, it may be more natural than your typical drug store brand, it may not be what you want if you actually want truly natural products.  My suggestion?  Pure + Simple, DeVita, Ava Anderson, W3LL People, Ilia Beauty, Intelligent Nutrients, Cheeky Monkey Nail Polish, Pure Anada, 100% Pure, Aubrey Naturals, Green Beaver, Zax’s, Frownies, No Miss, Suncoat, MarieNatie, Suki, Red Apple Lipstick, Weleda, Dr. Mist, Purely Great.  I’m sure I’ve forgotten some amazing companies that I’ve researched and loved but you get it right?  Yes I stand to gain because I sell these products but I researched Arbonne, it is not a product that I would carry at Serenity On The Humber.  Here are a couple blogs about it if you would like to see the research why.  Let me know your thoughts, I’m sure that there are going to be many that are upset about my words, let’s chat.

There’s a Natural Remedy For Eczema, Dandruff, Rosacea, Acne.

I wanted write a summary of my blogs and have it showing more recently since I direct people to my blog and they have to scroll quite a ways down to find some of them. I just wanted to say how amazed I am at what I read online with mis-information. It’s awesome to have information at our fingertips but sometimes I see things that I know are so not true.

One was posted the other day that said that when switching over to natural brands, shampoo and face wash are no big deal since they sit on the skin for such a short time. Any products applied on your skin are absorbed in 23 seconds. Both women and men are exposed to over 125 chemicals in their everyday products. If you use commercial deodorant, hair gel, shampoo, conditioner, shaving lotion, moisturizer, perfume, face wash, etc. etc……you are being exposed to these toxins.

I am always blown away at how many of us have no clue and that it can still go on. Why is this allowed? I think the explantion is pretty simple. The same as why I had skin issues and was visiting my medical doctor and dermatologist with no results only to be perscribed medications that didn’t work. I believe that people who are into ‘natural and clean living’ know a different way than the typical doctors and what they’ve learned. The clean way is more like what our ancestors experienced before the big drug companies were a part of our lives. My Mother-in-law has been eating seeds and making Kombucha tea as well as drinking her swamp water and eating garlic for over 30 years. She’s in her 80’s, she’s doing something right.

What gets me is when I see the National Eczema Association telling people to bathe their kids in bleach to get control it. This is crazy to me when there is St. Francis Red Clover Salve that works like a charm and is completely natural. It also heals wounds, and makes you forget you even got burned if you did.

I am forever commenting on pages on Facebook when people are asking about dandruff, acne, rosacea, wrinkles, eczema and feel like such a know it all. The reason I do it is because I see time after time these natural products working and it seems like such a no brainer. I want to shout it from the rooftops. I see so many hits on my neem oil and dandruff blog, it’s the most popular. Are people really listening? Do they go out and get neem? And if it works, they don’t really come back and comment or let me know. I know the feedback that I get from my clients is 99% positive.

So here’s a quick rundown:

Wrinkles – Frownies, there’s nothing like them. If you are consistant and wear them to bed every night for a month, then 4 nights a week after that you will not believe how incredible these are and so cost effective and natural!

Acne – as long as you use a completely natural, non-toxic face wash or manuka honey, exfolliate very lightly (baking soda), use the proper moisturiser or facial oils you will love your skin. No more stripping. Our face needs the natural oil it produces, if you stip, it will produce more. Change your pillowcase daily, wash your phone. My picks for skincare include Pure Anada (best make up and skin care, unbelievable price and customer service), Pure + simple (Guru of skin and Areveda, amazing products), Acure Organics (great shampoos, oils, great price, available at Whole Foods), DeVita (full skin care line, best sunscreen), Suki (not cheap but totally results oriented), Weleda (German, not cheap but has a cult following and well worth it), La Bella Figura (made with very rich, luxurious ingredients), Green Beaver (the price is right, works well, perfect for families)…….They are all great.

Rosacea – I have a strong belief that most of us that suffer from rosacea were burnt more than once. I find this time and time again with my clients, they have all been either very fair skinned and sun burned many times in the same spot or a sun worshipper like me. Don’t over exfoliate, use only natural products, always wear sunscreen, that goes for anyone but particularly the rosacea client. Zax’s Facial Redness Cream works magic. I honestly was sceptical, it works.

Dandruff – all it takes is a cap full of Neem Oil mixed with olive oil for 20 mins the first time, a few drops mixed in your shampoo the second time and leave for a minute. Simple, right?

Eczema – St. Francis Red Clover Salve. That is all you need. I have also heard adjusting your diet works from the inside so you don’t suffer but topically there is nothing better than this.

Anyone who wears makeup and suffers from any of these conditions should be using only all natural. Make your own, I post lots of DIY recipes on my Facebook page. If you would rather buy, I suggest Pure Anada (Such nice eye shadow colours, mineral makeup, best mascara), Zuzu, 100% Pure (nice everything), MarieNatie (lip glosses!!), Red Apple Lipstick (The best reds!) and Sappho (made with perfect skin care ingredients, neem oil, jojoba to control oils, made for tv personalities), Honeybee Gardens (great variety, great price). Nail polish pick is Cheeky Monkey. They have insane colours, 5 free, there is nothing longer lasting and the names are even more fun.

I am an avid fan of Ava Anderson, Crunchy Betty, No More Dirty Looks, One Good Thing By Jillee, Eco Chick Beauty Diva http://ecochicbeautydiva.blogspot.ca/, Ecoholic, Joyous Health. Check these resources out, they are reliable and informed!

These are mostly Canadian companies with a couple of U.S. ones. I’ve tested them all, recommend them all and can send you any of these for around $10 shipping within Canada. Don`t forget to sign up for my blogs and check out my site at http://www.serenityonthehumber.com

Best Non-Toxic Products – My Beauty Routine

Please make sure to sign up on the about page so you don’t miss my blogs.  Update: The webstore can now be found at http://www.glamgoesgreen.com if you are looking for totally non-toxic products that won’t break the bank.  Glam Goes Green is the green product portion of Serenity On The Humber.  Don’t forget to leave me your questions or comments, would love to help if I can.

I keep seeing posts online about what products the average woman uses. I was the same a little over a year ago until I learned that the typical beauty routine comprises of over 120 toxic chemicals every morning. This includes the guys too. Shampoo, Conditioner, toothpaste, shave gels, soaps, cologne, Hair gel.

It makes me cringe now whenever I think have done that for about 40 years. My dad was the V.P. of treasury at a very big baby product company and we had boxes and boxes at home of free product that was used on me. Unfortunately it is a little known fact that they contain formaldehyde in their baby products and won’t be free of them until 2015.

Most people are using the typical products that are easily found at most drug stores and all in one stores. The products that I mention aren’t found there making it a little more tricky to find. There are online stores including Serenityonthehumber.com or health stores such as Nature’s Emporium, Whole Foods,Noah’s. The only issue with online shopping in Canada is that the shipping is always so expensive. Much better if you can stop by my spa Serenity On The Humber to sample product before you buy to see, feel and smell.

I will tell you my everyday routine presently as it is always changing. Here are some of my favourite products.

1. Teeth – Jason Power Smile or Green Beaver cilantro mint.

2. Face – 100% Pure mint white tea foaming cleanser (normal to oily) or Pure + simple sensitive skin creamy cleanser (all types) or suki foaming exfoliating cleanser for oily skin types (my go to for a breakout). I also use Pure + simple organic vanilla cleansing powder mixed in with my facial wash to exfoliate daily, it’s that gentle.  I’ve recently found Corpa Flora cleansing system.  I am in love, there are 4 things that I have found since opening the spa that I am obsessed with.  Frownies, Sappho foundation and concealer, St. Francis Red Clover Salve for eczema or anything else skin, and Corpa Flora.  All about Omega Fatty Acids and rebuilding.  Check them out seriously.  My skin has never been like this.

3. Moisturizer – suki balancing day lotion (for combo skin), DeVita moisture tints SPF 15 (all in one plumping, moisturizing and SPF) or Pure + simple cellular repair and 100% Pure Super Fruits Reparative Cream or Red Wine Reversatrol Nourishing Cream.

4. Shampoo – 100% Pure coconut shampoo, Aubrey Naturals, I alternate and now I am loving Organic Matter.

5. Conditioner – 100% Pure coconut conditioner. So moisturizing and smells so good!

6. Foundation and concealer – Sappho cosmetics. Unbelievable coverage, face stays matte all day thanks to the jojoba oil and neem keeps my breakouts at bay.

7. Eyeliner – either Pure Anada or Zuzu liquid liner. I also use Sappho black shadow and aloe Vera gel as a liner. Works amazing!

8. Mascara – I love Pure Anada for daily use but use 100% Pure for that extra bling in blackberry for nights out.

9. To sleep with when broken out – DeVita high performance glycolic acid blend or suki renewal bio surface facial peel. Both work insanely well and Clear me up in a matter of a night or two. *note, I haven’t been broken out since using the Corpa Flora!

10. On any normal night to sleep – Pure + simple rejuvenating face oil

Lip balm – Badger of pure + simple lip oils.

11. Body wash – Weleda calendula baby wash and shampoo ( for those sensitive areas seriously!) and all over or Green Beaver body wash.

12. For facial redness – Zak’s facial redness cream

13. Under eye cream – DeVita under eye repair serum containing vitamin k or 100% Pure coffee bean caffeine eye cream.

14. Lipstick – Pure Anada lipstick and gloss, MarieNatie lip gloss, and badger lip balm anytime I am not wearing lip gloss. I did just sample red apple lipstick and am considering bringing into the spa. The colours are insane.

15. Shadows – either Pure Anada or Sappho for their pigments and shades.

16. For any skin inflammation issue – St. Francis red clover salve

17. For fine lines every night – the amazing Frownies (read my separate blog on them).

18. All over sunscreen – Green Beaver, DeVita solar body moisturizer or Badger.

19. Dandruff – Neem oil

20. Toner – DeVita cool cucumber, or 100% organic rose hydrosol.

21. For calming redness – Pure + simple cucumber mask.

22. Deodorant – Dr. mist, Purely Great, Aubrey Naturals, all work equally amazing

Did I forget anything? Have you used any of these products? Remember you can basically get any of these that I’ve mentioned by visiting my site http://www.serenityonthehumber.com.

Behind the scenes while I’m recouping, I will be working on an online store so distance won’t be an issue for anyone who wants to buy true non-toxic products.  I research very seriously, almost obsessively to make sure that there are no toxins in what I carry and use in the spa.  If you have eczema, dandruff, rosacea or acne, I have amazing products that can help you deal with these.  If you have fine lines, I have a product that will change your life as long as you are consistent with them (Frownies).  Please, don’t hesitate to contact me while I am on the mend.  I love questions, I love helping people, it’s my passion.

Have a safe and healthy summer.  I will be back before you know it offering my amazing Ped In A Bed, Hawaiian Volcanic body scrub and wraps, and organic facials.

Cheers,

Natural Non-Toxic Deodorant, Dr. mist

There are two issues with people switching over to a deodorant that does not contain aluminum.  One: They don’t even realize the implications of using a typical drug store brand.  Two: They don’t believe that a natural one will work.

The versatile multi-award winning DR.mist body hygiene floatation fluid spray utilizes just pure water found in the Dead Sea, that consists of concentrated salt and minerals.

DR.mist effectively kills body odor even if bathing is not possible up to 3 days.

It also kills bacteria to accelerate with healing wounds, acne, eczema and core sores with visible results within 24 hours. Dr. Mist can even take the sting out of insect bites and skin itchiness. And my daughter even uses it on her feet at night before going to bed.  No more stinky boots and shoes!

Now for the best part.  My Mom and two Aunt’s were diagnosed with breast cancer all within the last 3 years.  I had just ordered in Dr. mist to sell to my clients in the spa.  I suggested that they better stop using those other typical deodorants.  Studies show that they could be the cause of the cancer in the first place, I thought that could be the first thing they switched over.  I tell most people when they are thinking about changing over to all natural non-toxic products that this is the place to start.  One of my motto’s is “Changing lives one armpit at a time!”

They all love it, in fact, my daughter, husband and entire extended family has switched to Dr. mist.  Many of my clients now too.  The feedback is amazing, from hockey mom’s using it on their kids hockey equipment and no more stink, to my Aunt who says even conventional brands still left her stinky.  Dr. mist lives up to it’s claims, it works.  I even skip a day if I haven’t had a shower and I still smell great.  I use the lavender, it really doesn’t have a smell per say but I still love my scented things, at least this is with essential oil!

If you are thinking of switching over, this is the brand you want.  I don’t write blogs about the stuff that doesn’t work, only the stuff I’m passionate about.  This is one of them.  Dr. mist rocks! Let me know if you’ve tried it and how you like it.  If you want any of the products that I write about, just email me at Soth@rogers.com.  I can ship anything you need Canada Wide. Phone number is (647) 282-3494. I’d love to hear more success stories!!Image

It does not contain any fragrance, artificial colorings, cream, oil, aluminum or alcohol nor will it cause stain, irritation or toxicity.

And because it is just water and mineral salts

Handing out Toxic Products to Women Fighting Cancer???

Handing out Toxic Products to Women Fighting Cancer???

I have just recently found out about charities that are handing out big name cosmetic company products to women who are battling cancer and fighting for their life.  There are helpful coupons and information about hair loss which is a huge concern first and foremost   What troubles me is that there are toxic body products being given to people who’s immune systems are already compromised  I spend my life trying to educate women and men against the toxins in their everyday body products.  It sickens me to find out that such a nice gesture of trying to make people feel better about themselves in their time of need could be so misguided.  I can not compete with these large cosmetic companies, I do not have my own ‘brand’ of cosmetics.  There are plenty of amazing non-toxic North American companies doing this already, I have researched and spent countless hours researching them and selling them to clients in my spa expecting feedback and it’s all positive.  Of course these companies are nowhere near the size of the big marketing, big budget companies.  This is partly why I say don’t buy anything you see on t.v. advertised.  The only legitimate company that I have actually see a media campaign for is Dr. Mist deodorant which is an amazing non-toxic product.

http://www.theinvestigativefund.org/investigations/envirohealth/1787/beauty_tips_for_the_fda

Now I’ve called the Canadian Cancer Society to offer my services to volunteer and educate woman and men on this very thing.  No call back.  It’s possible that because I wasn’t offering to donate anything I didn’t hear back?  Whatever the case may be it’s sad.   I feel this information is beneficial to all people, better to learn of it before the cancer hits.  When it does, I feel it is especially important that all information about toxins be given to people suffering.

So what can I do?  I will look into starting a charity.  I will ask all companies I know that are honest and legitimate to donate product towards my charity so that I can go into hospital rooms and share these with amazing people who have enough to deal with. Already this morning after sending out only a handful of emails, Dr. Mist, Pure + Simple, Weleda and Green Beaver is on board which is completely exciting to me.  Society is changing, I believe that more and more are looking towards natural products and are getting smarter about green washing.  They are sick of learning after the fact that there is lead in their lipstick, or triclosin in their hand wash.  Please help me in spreading the word, I need all the help I can get in this fight against the big companies.  Please offer your advice, opinions, contacts.  I am committed to this, I have to be the biggest rash to make headway and am prepared to do what I have to do to change this situation.

UPDATE: Here is a copy of the email I received back from the Look Good Feel Better Charity. I realize that the key here is that I have to be a member which costs thousands of dollars and that this is backed by the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Association (CCTFA). It’s all coming clear now….They don’t want to know about non-toxic products, they are working just fine for them, it’s all about money honey.

Dear Lisa,
I am writing in response to your e-mail of May 8, 2013 regarding the safety of products included in the kits provided to participants in Look Good Feel Better workshops.
First, we are grateful to the countless volunteers, suppliers and the staff at the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation (CCTFAF) in making the LGFB program beneficial to the workshop attendees.
As the organization responsible for the Look Good Feel Better program, we at the CCTFA Foundation take very seriously the safety and health of the women who participate in our workshop program as well as all people who use personal care products in their daily lives. Consequently, our workshop program specifically addresses these issues and we also review the products included in our kits to ensure that they are appropriate and safe for women with cancer.
To further ensure there is no risk or cause for concern for any women who attend our workshops, we have specifically consulted with the Chair of our CCTFA Foundation Health Care Advisory Committee, Dr. Jennifer Blake. Dr. Blake is the Chief Executive Officer of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada, Professor and Associate Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto, as well as Chair of the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health.
Following Dr. Blake’s own review and consultation with expert colleagues on the safety of ingredients used in cosmetics, Dr. Blake indicated that there is “NO concern with the inclusion of these substances in personal care products that may be included in the kits provided for the use of participants in the Look Good Feel Better workshops.”
As to product and ingredient safety generally, it is important to note that in Canada all personal care products are regulated under the Food & Drugs Act and its associated regulations. A cosmetic product must, as the Food & Drugs Act states, not contain or have in it “any substance that may cause injury to the health of the user when the cosmetic is used; (a) according to the directions on the label or accompanying the cosmetic; or (b) for such purpose and by such method of use as are customary or usual”. It is therefore illegal to provide cosmetics that would cause harm when used as intended.
Canadian law further requires that Health Canada be notified of all cosmetic products that are on the market including receiving a list of their ingredients and formulations. This ensures that Health Canada is fully aware of what products are available to consumers, what ingredients are included in them and in what quantities, and who is responsible for the products should there be a concern. Canada is one of the few jurisdictions in the world to have a notification system that results in such a comprehensive database for its regulatory authorities.
As to concerns with specific ingredients, Health Canada also maintains and publishes the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. This important regulatory tool prohibits or places restrictions on ingredients or categories of ingredients based on the most up to date science and risk assessments. It is regularly updated based on new or evolving scientific or health information from around the world, including information from regulators in the European Commission as well as the Food and Drug Administration in the United States. Additionally, concerned organizations, medical or scientific researchers, and even individual citizens are welcome to submit new scientific information or data for Health Canada’s review should they believe that there is a previously unknown or new health risk that is not being addressed.
The health and safety of the women who attend our workshops remains the top priority for the CCTFA Foundation and our Look Good Feel Better program. In addition to working closely with the medical community, our staff and dedicated group of volunteers always take great care to ensure that our program provides a safe, helpful, educational and empowering experience for participants. We also ensure that any products provided through our workshop kits are appropriate for the health needs of participants, and meet all regulatory requirements and expectations of Health Canada. In all of these efforts, we continue to be very much committed and will continue to be so in the future.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.
With best regards,

Deborah Hannah
Director, Look Good Feel Better

With a follow up letter once I asked if I could please come and educate woman to give them a choice and submitted many links stating that these companies are involved with contain toxins. I also told them that I have spoken to 4 companies who are committed to donating their products for the kits.

Thank you for your interest in Look Good Feel Better. In order for companies to donate product to our kits, they must be a member of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Association (CCTFA). Interested companies can learn more about becoming a member of the CCTFA at the following link: http://www.cctfa.ca/site/cctfa/New_Member.htm

It is important to note that our program is standardized across Canada and the education and delivery of the workshop is approved by the CCTFA Foundation Board, our Health Care Advisory Committee and the medical community. In addition, one of the program’s guiding principles is that we are product neutral; therefore no individuals, services, products or companies are promoted in any Look Good Feel Better workshops. We also ensure that any products provided through our workshop kits are appropriate for the health needs of participants, and meet all regulatory requirements and expectations of Health Canada.

We thank you again for your interest in the program.

Regards,

LGFB

Am I frustrated? You bet! Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated 🙂

This is one night of wearing frownies.  Imagine after 30 consistent nights!

I’ve been meaning to do a review of Frownies for a long time and keep procrastinating.  I’ll tell you why……………………..I always like to see pictures of what results are achieved from a product.  The first time I tried Frownies I knew that I was on to something.

When clients come in to ask me to help with fine lines and wrinkles I tell them that there literally is only one thing that will help them naturally to erase a wrinkle.  You can go and spend THOUSANDS of dollars and so many do.  I’ve seen horror stories, some in my own family that have to go have surgery just to repair what was supposed to fix the lines in the first place.  Next thing you know they are addicted just like Michael Jackson was or the women in Beverly Hills.  Sorry, that’s not my cup of tea.

These have been around for more than 120 years, they are referred to as Hollywood’s best kept beauty secret and it makes total sense why.  These totally work.  And yes again I have pics to prove it but Lisa does not look attractive at all in selfies and so I refuse to post them!!  I am extremely critical of myself, probably why I got into this business in the first place, I like perfection lol!  There is one specific thing that I state to people before I sell these to clients.  They have to be consistent.  If they aren’t, these are just not going to work for them.

The way these work? Picture brown paper bag or a band aid.  It’s the concept of taping the area smooth with tape or a band aid.  I know many that have tried it before coming to purchase the real deal.  Problem?  Tape residue on the face, looks pretty funny the next day, especially after scrubbing for an hour trying to remove the residue.  This is made from Kraft Paper (like a lunch bag) and has vegetable glue on the back to ensure it sticks. Totally natural, that’s what I love!  You massage the area that you want to be smoothed out for a minute or so.  Dampen the area with water or rose water from Frownies.  Make sure that you stretch the skin to make sure that the line is smoothed out as much as possible and place the Frownie on the line.  Hold for maybe a minute and wear for as little as 3 hours before a function to as much as a good night’s 8 hour sleep.  These must be worn for 30 days every night in order for the line not to re-appear during the day.  They are retraining what you have trained your face to do and it took a long time to get there, it’s going to take a while for it to disappear.  Then you can wear them for just 4 nights a week after the first month and continue to do so.  There are 144 patches in a package for $22.  These last forever.  Except for one of my clients that wear 8 a night.  Hey they work, why not?  What else is going to get rid of lines?  Your moisturizer no matter how great will not erase lines.  I know, I’ve tried them all.  That’s why I am obsessed with Frownies.  And you will be too.

Here is the text no word of a lie after I brought them for her to try when visiting her in California: OMG……Frownies are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I have really deep wrinkles on my forehead…..& gone! Well practically anyway . What is in those? How do they do that? And where do I buy them? Going to get a truck load lol! That is one of the BEST things anyone has ever given me!! Love Love Love……

They have many different types, my favourite?  The chest wrinkle gel pads.  They work amazing, I have a ton of sun damage from all the years of baby oil and sunburns in the 80’s.  Consistency is the key………….Here is the link to purchase them: http://www.serenityonthehumber.com/soth_ecom_static_v2.asp

Cool story, a 43 year old woman called me the other day and asked if I sold Frownies.  I said yes and she had to drive over 45 minutes to the spa to buy them.  When she came in, she told me that she tried to book Botox that day with her friend with a nurse.  The friend got in, she didn’t and was on a wait list.  I was so happy that she started obsessively looking up how to treat wrinkles online.  It lead her to Frownies.  She couldn’t believe how cost effective these were compared to Botox, never mind the long term health implications (who knows what they will be?)  She was going through a separation with 3 kids and felt like she was frowning a lot!  These also can be worn by a 20 year old that wants to prevent wrinkles.  You can bet that I will be getting my own daughters into wearing these at night once they need to start their beauty regimen.   If you want any of the products that I write about, just email me at Soth@rogers.com.  I can ship anything you need Canada Wide. Phone number is (647) 282-3494. Have you tried these and what were your results?

Facial Redness, Rosacea – Treat It Naturally With Zak’s Facial Redness Cream and Sappho

Zak's

Image

I was first introduced to Zak’s Creams by the book Ecoholic Body written by Adria Vasil. They have developed a cream that has a mass following called Darkspot Cream. I have had several people come back and repurchase and say that this cream works! Now while I can’t really say I have dark spots per say, I do have facial redness across the bridge of my nose and across my cheeks. I wear foundation every day to hide this imperfection.

Being in the beauty industry is not easy, if you have imperfections people wonder how well your treatments work. I know because I hesitated to go to a bald hairdresser haha! Well laser works, I just don’t own a laser machine. They can zap the tiny red capillaries in the face and they disappear for a while. It’s a maintenance thing really. Just as anything else that is treated with laser, it usually resurfaces but it works.

I did have one skin issue I hadn’t been able to figure out how to eliminate. I do have 2 or 3 treatment creams that I honestly haven’t tried yet. I am lazy and not very good at commitment. When it’s bedtime, it’s bedtime, I have no patience to apply 15 things. For some reason, I was very excited when I heard Zak’s was coming out with new creams, I guess because I have heard that the others really did work. One for dark eye circles (thankfully I’m not there yet), and one for facial redness. The best part is that it is completely natural and non-toxic.

I ordered it as soon as I could, it came out at the end of March 2013. It hung around for a bit unopened I must confess. Then I finally comitted to using it, I was sick of having a red blotchy face. Honestly, I don’t have pictures, well I do but I hate selfies of me. I look terrible! So I did document it but am not going to show you although it would give you a chuckle I’m sure!

All I can tell you is that I won’t lie if a product doesn’t work. Quite honestly, I’ve tried many that don’t for me and I won’t blog about them because what doesn’t work for me may work amazing for someone else and vise versa. Within a week, I was going without foundation. The only imperfections that I cover up are the odd scar that I need to treat with chemical peels and just haven’t gotten around to it. It’s like the mechanic with the car that needs a tune up or a renovation guy who’s house has many unfinished projects. I just haven’t had time to treat myself, all in the life of an esthetician 🙂

If you do have blotchy skin or facial redness, try this, I do really believe that it will work for you too, there’s no reason for it not to. Sea buckthorn oil is also very healing as well. I couldn’t believe how fast the results were achieved and it’s keeping me using it because I don’t want it coming back I’m sooooooo happy it’s gone. If you want any of the products that I write about, just email me at Soth@rogers.com. I can ship anything you need Canada Wide. Phone number is (647) 282-3494. Let me know how it works for you!

Non-Toxic St.Francis Red Clover Salve Is All You Will Ever Need to Treat Eczema Naturally

Look at the results after 7 days, this has not been touched up whatsoever.  Just documented.

St. Francis after 7 days

Treatment naturally for Eczema

While I realize there is no cure for eczema, I have had many, many people tell me that they have been leading a gluten-free lifestyle and have no more signs since they switched over.  As well, my naturopath mentioned to me last week that she has switched her patients over to gluten-free and no more issues.  I have also had a couple of people mention that cheese seems to irritate their skin as well.

Crazy part is that I am on the National Eczema Assosiation’s Facebook page because I’m always looking for treatments for skin conditions since that is what I do for a living.  I myself had Eczema and went to the dermatologist and it’s now gone.  They actually suggested bleach baths.  I burned all day about this.  How toxic is that?  They posted a doctor’s suggestion with a recipe included.  Many were commenting how they had used this for their young children.  I shudder when I hear this.

In reading Ecoholic Body by Adria Vasil, which is all about non-toxic body care products, she suggests that St Francis Red Clover Salve.  Instead of opening an account with them, I figured I’d go to the local health food store and buy it for full price for a friend of mine. She could try it and then let me know how it worked before making a commitment.  I’ve had three clients using this treatment and all have reported back that it has virtually made it disappear.  Now they are telling two friends and so on and so on.  It’s that simple.  They say that it makes a huge difference in even a day.  If consistent in using it, it disappears and heals back to almost ‘normal’ skin.

It can be purchased through Serenity On The Humber or Natures Emporium.  I have now opened an account with the company, I am that confident that it works.  Here is L’s comment on my Facebook page about her use of St. Francis Red Clover Salve…….The best thing you can do as well is to only use non toxic hand wash and dish soap.  My suggestions are Green Beaver, 100 % Pure or Dr. Bronners.

Lisa I want to thank you so much for telling me about the St. Francis Red Clover Salve for my eczema…I started using it yesterday and could not believe the results overnight with one application!! I’ve been trying to combat it for years with cortisone type creams.. Some expensive and some not so expensive but never seen results like this…I’ve always been self-conscious about the patches I get on my neck so I always have my hair covering it…now I’ll be able to wear it up finally…I’m almost doing a happy dance lol..

This prompted J to post this on my page later that day……………..

Lisa, I also use ST. Francis Red clover salve on my hands and face, and within two days of using it I could see a significant difference in my skin, no more burning itch, flakiness, or redness. I have even used it on my youngest daughter with the same results. I recommend this ointment to anyone with eczema, or sore patches on their skin. Thanks for recommending such a great product. Happy and rash free in Caledon.

I just want to state that I’m not being paid by the company, neither are my clients or anyone who brags about this miracle cream for Eczema.  If you have it, use this.  I am 99.9 % sure that it will work for any skin inflammatory issue.  Great first aid cream to have on hand as well.  It retails for between $25-$27 for a 60 ml tube.  You won’t be disappointed! If you want any of the products that I write about, just email me at Soth@rogers.com. I can ship anything you need Canada Wide. Phone number is (647) 282-3494. Don’t forget to sign up to get my blogs sent via email on the about page!

Please share : Just remember when doing so to give credit where credit is too.  Thanks!

This is me after a fight with a tree branch.  The day of and 7 days later.  It’s not just for Eczema kiddies, it heals everything, naturally!
